I'm not REALLY Rebellious...

Despite the name I chose for my blog, I'm not really a rebel. If a sign says, "15 minute parking" and I have a nail appointment; I'm not going to park there. I'm not going to cut through a parking lot to skip a long red light, or take 2 free cookies at the grocery store when the sign clearly says "take one".

So where does preppy rebel come from? Everyone has some sort of rebellious side, right? What is your outlet? Mine happens to be my style.

One night at my daughter's dance studio, the other mothers started discussing tattoos.

"I have 3," I shyly added. All the heads turned.

"But you're so...preppy!" one said. "You're a preppy rebel!" It stuck.

So, no, I'm not rebellious against authority or in my physical actions. I rebel against stereotypical fashion "rules" and expectations.

Yes, I am over 30; quite a bit over 30 now, actually. If I feel like wearing leggings, I'm going to wear them; usually with bright animals or sea life on them. White jeans after labor day? Absolutely! And my favorite of all? Colored tights! I love hot pink tights, green tights, shimmery gold tights. Give me all the colors!

I don't allow age or dated fashion rules dictate my style. I usually have at least one bright colored hair extension in my hair and for my 34th birthday I got a daith piercing. For those of you still reading, and wondering about the tattoos...

My first was a fairy on my hip, which was the artwork on Britney Spears CD "Britney". Yes, I'm serious. I was 18. Next, I got my sorority crown and letters on my low back. Again, I was 18 and it was the early 2000s. Leave me alone! My third (but maybe not my last?) is, by far, my most special. I have 2 little interlocking hearts on my hip that I got with my childhood best friend.

Now that you know why "Preppy Rebel" I hope you can find inspiration through my style to express your own rebellious side by breaking fashion rules. -xoxo- Ashley
